TOUR DESCRIPTION
Florence’s Jewish community ‘s roots sink deep into the time of the upsurge of the city, the Renaissance, the Medici Family and Florence Capital of Italy  A tour on the footsteps of the Jewish community is an incomparable  experience to better understand the past and the present of Florence.

Our tour begins with Piazza Della Repubblica where in 1570 the “ghetto” was constructed and soon extended to today’s Via Roma, Loggia del Mercato, Via delle Oche Via Brunelleschi. The ghetto which had been abandoned by most of the Jews, was torn down together with many medieval buildings together with the ancient city walls  at the end of the 19th Cent. when Florence became the Capital of Italy. In 1870 a new outstanding Synagogue was built,  reputed as one of the most beautiful in Europe and its museum will be our second visit. After a coffee-break, time has come for  nice panoramic drive to San Miniato Church, built in the year 900 is one of the oldest religious building in Florence with the best view over the city, can’t miss a visit to  Cimitero Monumentale Ebraico  in Viale Ariosto, just outside off the ancient city walls, built by Enrico Treves in 1777 and in use for over 100 years. A hidden and suggestive corner unknown to most of native Florentines. A high wall guards jealously an important treasure of Jewish culture. ( Admission only  on advance request and subject to confirmation )
